Kareem for Ward 3, One Year Later

It’s hard to believe it’s been a year since launching my campaign to represent Ward 3 on the Hyattsville City Council. Looking back, I am filled with a sense of pride and gratitude for the progress we’ve made together as a community.

When I first decided to run for office, it was because I saw a need for more attention and resources to be focused in Ward 3. I felt there were many opportunities, and I was determined to understand how priorities and projects could align more with the needs of our Ward 3 residents. During my campaign, I spoke about the importance of intentional growth, safety enhancements, and responsive governance. These priorities were not just campaign promises to me; they were values that I continue to hold dear and commitments that I work to fulfill every day.

Since taking office in June, I’ve been honored to work alongside fellow council members, Mayor Croslin, city staff, and community members to turn those priorities into action. One of the highlights of this past year has been co-sponsoring the rent stabilization ordinance, a crucial step in ensuring that housing remains affordable for all residents. I’ve also been working with the city and our local businesses to implement a Business Improvement District that will bring much needed investments to Ward 3, making it safer and more enjoyable for anyone who lives and visits our community.

Perhaps the most valuable lesson I’ve learned since launching my campaign is that change takes time. Intentional growth and public safety do not have end points; they require sustained efforts and advocacy. While we have passed measures to provide additional resources for the police department, volunteer fire department, and road safety, I remain focused on these priorities as there is still much work to be done.

I am excited about the opportunities that lie ahead and, as I celebrate one year since launching my campaign, I am filled with gratitude for the trust and support of the community. I am proud of what we have accomplished together, and I am eager to continue serving as an advocate for Ward 3 on the Hyattsville City Council.

Thank you for allowing me the privilege of serving you, and here’s to many more years of progress and positive change ahead. Together, we will continue to build a stronger, safer, more vibrant, and inclusive Hyattsville for all residents.

Sincerely,
Kareem Redmond
