Since moving to Ward 3 in 2012, my love has only grown for Hyattsville and the people that make our community unique. That uniqueness is not something we can take for granted. For the last several years, I’ve served as the president of One Independence Plaza’s condo association. In this role, I’ve implemented solutions to improve the well-being of several hundred residents while also advocating for University Town Center’s revitalization. If elected, I will work to increase public safety, support creation of vibrant community spaces, and protect housing accessibility and affordability for all. Throughout my career, I’ve worked in nonprofit management, strategic planning, and stakeholder engagement. There is a consistent theme among all my experiences. It is my ability to build relationships and align individuals around shared goals to create a better future for those I serve. It would be my honor to serve you on Hyattsville’s city council.

Why did you decide to run for office?

I’ve lived in the East-West Highway corridor for over a decade, and in that time, I’ve seen a great deal of change. I’ve witnessed the establishment of new housing communities and several more are on the way. With more neighbors in the area, it will be imperative that the city focuses its resources to meet the needs of its residents. Furthermore, we need to establish affordable housing options and ensure the safety of those who live, work, and do business in our ward. Commercial development has not always been representative of the wants and needs of our community. For these reasons and more, Ward 3 needs a representative that bridges the gap between residents’ concerns and decisions made by our city government. That’s why I decided to run for office.

What makes you the best candidate for this position?

What I offer the residents of Ward 3 is a life-long passion for service and a desire to help our community grow in a way that’s welcoming, safe, and affordable. As HOA president of One Independence Plaza located at University Town Center, I am responsible for the safety and wellbeing of several hundred residents. I see the role of Council Member as a natural progression in my service to this community and a way for me to put my skills to greater use. I have the natural ability to build relationships and align individuals around shared goals to create practical solutions. Additionally, I understand what it takes to engage community members to create a shared vision for how we move forward together. I look forward to ongoing conversations with residents about how my skills and experience make me the best candidate for this position.

What is the one thing you hope to accomplish, if elected?

If elected, one thing I want to accomplish is increasing the safety and vibrancy of Ward 3. First, we can accomplish this by advocating for more affordable and accessible housing. Second, we can accomplish this through tactics that increase safety on our streets and in our neighborhoods. Third, a vibrant and safe community relies on having thriving businesses that reinvest in our residents. More specific ideas include activating underused public spaces, investing in mental health services, and meeting regularly with community groups and neighbors beyond quarterly ward check-ins. All of this is possible when our city government works closely with residents to hear our concerns and implements evidence-based policies that support our needs. As a member of council, I will use my voice and influence to focus city resources on these goals. In working together, we can create a more prosperous Hyattsville while solidifying its uniqueness.
